External Wall Insulation

An energy upgrade and an architectural transformation in one.

External facade insulation wraps the whole house in a continuous insulation layer and gives it a new, durable finish. Warmer inside, better looking outside.

What external wall insulation does for your home.

Improved thermal performance

A continuous insulation layer around the whole house, without interruptions at floors or walls.

Reduced thermal bridges

Because the insulation sits outside the structure, cold bridges at slabs and lintels disappear.

Weather protection

The finish protects the existing wall against rain, frost and wind for decades.

Improved facade appearance

Render, brick slips or cladding: the house gets a clean, contemporary look.

Lower heating consumption

Walls stay warm on the inside, so the heating runs less and the rooms feel warmer.

Long-term property protection

A dry, warm wall structure is a wall structure that lasts.

From dated to durable.

BeforeAfter

The system, layer by layer.

  1. 01

    Preparation

The facade is checked, cleaned and repaired where needed. Sills, downpipes and fixtures are adapted.

  2. 02

    Insulation boards

EPS, mineral wool or wood fibre boards are bonded and anchored to the wall in a continuous layer.

  3. 03

    Base coat and mesh

A reinforced base coat with embedded mesh gives the system its strength and impact resistance.

  4. 04

    Finish

Render, brick slips or cladding complete the facade, with clean reveals around every window and door.

The details decide the result.

Window reveals, sills, plinths, roof edges and connections to neighbours: this is where a facade either looks precise for decades or starts to show its age. We plan and finish every detail before the render goes on.

  • Deep, straight window reveals
  • New sills and drip edges
  • Insulated plinth and base
  • Clean roof and gutter connections
  • Adapted downpipes and fixtures
  • Colour and texture samples on site

External wall insulation questions

What is external wall insulation?

External wall insulation (also called facade insulation or ETICS) fixes insulation boards to the outside of the existing walls and finishes them with a reinforced base coat and a render, brick slips or cladding. The house is wrapped in a continuous warm layer.

Can it be applied to a brick house?

Yes. Most Belgian brick houses are very suitable. The insulation is anchored to the brick and the new finish becomes the visible facade.

Which finishes are possible?

Mineral or silicone render in many colours and textures, brick slips that keep a traditional look, and cladding such as fibre cement or timber. Finishes can be combined on one house.

Do I need a permit?

Rules differ per municipality and depend on the change in facade appearance and building line. We help you check what applies to your property before the work starts.
